Laws in the City of Neverwinter

Laws:

§1: Violence is not allowed without cause. One subject of the kingdom may not harm another subject unless they have the proper cause.

These include,
Defence of person, family, or property needed to survive; Crops, home, livestock, clothing.
This law is in place for all subjects, be they noble or common.

§2: Brawling in town is allowed so long as it does not harm bystanders, property, or offend a noble.
If a man is down and his foe continues to strike him he will be charged and flogged five strikes. Only hit a man if he is still standing and fighting back.

§3: Duels agreed upon by both parties is allowed. These duels will be held at the beach, no exceptions.

§4: Theft will not be tolerated. The clerks will start to keep record of properties in the nation, one man may not steal from another by force or guile. If they are found out there will be a trial, and if found guilty the guilty party will be subject to the King’s Justice.

§5: Worship of dark gods will not be allowed on King’s Land except in allowed areas.
Actions under this law include:
Attempting to preach and covert,
Hold ceremonies in their names
Declare their power as the reason for an event.

§6: All parties of wealth will contribute to the defence of the city. Taxes will be ordered by the High Clerk, and they will be paid. Failure to do so will lead to a trial, and if found guilty the King’s Justice. Parties who have issue with the tax may ask for a meeting with the High Clerk or the Hand of the King.

§7: No acts of Treason
No subject is permitted to purposefully undermine the power or authority of the Crown. You are welcome to disagree and speak of these disagreements. However anyone found trying to band others together, or deceive the Crown will be dealt with harshly. If a subject has issue with the Crown they are to take the matter up with the Hand of the King

§8: Respect of nobility.
Our city is built, and defended by our nobles. They may not seize your property, or harm your family without a warrant from the Crown. In return all common folk are expected to treat nobles with respect. You are welcome to disagree with them, and loudly, to, a, point. If a man of common rank insults a noble he will be flogged to the Judge’s declared number of strikes. If a common man strikes a noble without cause and ability to prove it, he will be executed, his property taken, and his family exiled.

§9: Guilds and Unions.
These are allowed, so long as they are in support of the Crown and City and do not support treason or dark gods.

§10: Weapons will not be unsheathed in town. Exceptions are staves for druids and wizards.

§11: Masks are not allowed in the town, anyone wearing one will have it removed, if an exception is needed it will be in writing by the Crown.

§12: Legal Racism is limited
If a man has enough human blood that it is easily noticed, they will have the proper protections of the law. Our city is pressed, and cannot afford to have useful able-bodied people exiled.

§13: Work Days
From now on, any man that works ten days, will have two days off. Employers are responsible to ensure their people are paid, and in a timely manner. If a man refuses to pay his people over his own interests he will be flogged until the Hand is tired of swinging the whip.

§14: Summoning the Undead
No subject may knowingly summon the undead, to do so will be a death sentence.
