On the EXP and Loot System

Post by K.Kragh »

The Rise of Neverwinter has a custom made EXP system and Loot system. To help the players adjust from other servers we have decided to share a general idea of how the system has been designed so that they can take this into account at character creation and during play:

EXP System:
Whenever a creature is killed the player will receive an amount of exp that is calculated based on the player's level and the creatures challenge rating. The amount of exp that the player gets is not modified by the size of his party nor his party member's own levels. This means that players will never have any OOC reasons to not party up with someone while being out on adventures, as it can never have a negative effect on their exp gains. Boss kills gives special higher exp bonuses based on their challenge ratings, and it will often be worthwhile for a higher level player to join a lower level party if his presence will give the party the ability to take down a boss.

The server features a standard dynamic RP exp system. In addition to this, DM's are instructed to further reward players that engage in good entertaining and meaningful RP that benefits the immersion of other players. Special RP opportunities might also open up for those that dedicate themselves to roleplaying their characters and influencing the development of the world!

Loot System
The loot system functions as a well balanced dynamic script that spawns loot based on challenge rating. Higher challenge rating monsters, bosses and chests will have a chance of spawning stronger loot. Only the strongest of bosses such as the Red Dragon nesting on top of the volcano Mount Hotenow can spawn the highest tier loot.

There are two types of "chests" one of them is available to anyone, and others are only available to characters with sufficient open lock. For some adventures it might therefore be worth it to hire a "locksmith" if you want to maximise the amount of loot.
